MARVEL One-Shot: The Consultant

 *Warning- Nerdy analysis inside*

The Avengers is on its way on May 4th 2012, and with all Marvel's films out for the year, they are continuing their hype for next year's team-up with a number of short-films called 'Marvel One-shots'. These are small continuity fillers that are appearing on upcoming Marvel home releases.

The first one is called The Consultant and will appear on the upcoming Thor Blu-Ray. The second one is called A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer and is expected to be on the Captain America disc.

The Consultant has been released online and so I will post it for you below....

So from what I gather from it, S.H.I.E.L.D originally wanted the Emil 'Abomination' Blomsky (played by Tim Roth in The Incredible Hulk) as a part of The Avengers, but Coulson didn't think it was a good idea. So he sent Tony Stark as 'The Consultant' (a role he took on at the end of Iron Man 2) to see General Ross to effectively goad Ross into not giving Blomsky up to S.H.I.E.L.D.

So the post-credit scene from The Incredible Hulk which we all thought was Stark looking for Banner was in fact not the case at all? Interesting.

Also it's interesting to see Coulson go against his superiors on this when in the films to date he's been nothing but the ideal company man. Clearly he realises Banner is way more stable and good-natured as Hulk than Blomsky is as The Abomination.

Although S.H.I.E.L.D would rather have Blomsky as Banner got pinned with all the destruction at the end of The Incredible Hulk and don't really want to be seen to have a known fugitive on their team.

So it isn't the most interesting short-film ever made, but it does answer some questions and fills in the gap between Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk.

I'll post the other one-shots as they come online but is anyone else ridiculously excited for The Avengers? It truly is nerd heaven.
